A small Hospital with a lot of technology

Torrevieja’s Hospital, sited on the south coast of the ‘Comunidad Valenciana’, in the Alicante’ s Province; starts on October 2006, for a peculiar population, with a media of 200,000 habitants and a maximum of 600,000 on holidays. The challenge of making a versatile hospital, modern and above all efficient, claims the best technologic advances for health services.
A technological conception about sanitary assistance.

Technology was intimate related from the beginning to the plan of a ‘hospital without papers’, with the creation of their own computer shelf, which collect all the information about health area. Florence, that’s the system name, is engine of process and management tool that includes everything.
Florencealoud all the information from patient attention could be watch by professionals, as much as specialist and family doctor, making possible a full assistance.
Technology used by patients.
The technology we have at Torrevieja’s health area is focus on 3 essential points, by a side the improvement of provision of the medical assistance offered to patients, as it is the case of SMS with the word ‘URGENCIAS’ to 5013, that offers patients the waiting time of the different urgencies points; the appointment SMS, inform the user for free, the day and the time of the test he has asked to his doctor, where is not necessary to call or wait for that; or the automatic appointment reader, which after reading the sanitary card, inform the doctor that the patient is waiting to be serve.
Technology used by professionals.
Other application of this system is at professionals work, between many other examples we can mention the ‘teleradiologia’ and ‘teledermatologia’ , with duties and reports from doctor’s home; doctors also receive SMS about test asked by urgent; and the most recent, the surftable, which is a mobile table-computer, with an incorporated screen at the tray, washable and resistant, that allowed the surgeon access to the clinical history from the surgical table, giving potential to the yield and handle ( used too by the patient as entertainment station); the same agility gives the PC Tablet, another innovated mobile equipment, compact and light, washable and resistant to blows that, in urgencies, allowed to see patients in different boxes at the same time, and check their clinic history, change it, ask tests, etc. Technology used for management.
But Florence also is used to giving potential to resources, throw the information offered at his control panel about waiting time in urgencies, surgical rates, appointments, tests, entrees, discharges, medical staying, etc.. All that allows taking decisions for keeping the improvement of sanitary offer.

Florence was born with this hospital, in a computer system created by the System Direction of Torrevieja’s Hospital and with Microsoft tools, with a low cost, very by underneath other programs in market, besides being created and constantly adapted for organization needs and the software of the other companies that provide with equipment the hospital, for a total synchronization.
Assistance model of Torrevieja’s Hospital.
‘Consellería de Sanidad’ gives a prívate Enterprise ‘Torrevieja Salud UTE’, the administration of a public service. This temporal union of enterprises is formed as majority members by Ribera Salud (Bancaja y Cam) y Asisa. The concept of this assistance model is a public health, free, universal, public property and private management, for a 15 and 5 years period, and after that it will return to Public Administration
