Gore’s medical product portfolio at ComPaMED 2007
Polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) is a multifunctional tissue, widely known as Gore-Tex for the use as waterproof laminate in high-performance fabrics. At ComPaMED 2007, Gore presented that PTFE is used in a wide variety of healthcare applications as well.
Since its invention for the medical use as vascular prosthesis in 1975 more than 25 million implantations of Gore-Tex material were performed worldwide.
The company’s medical implant product portfolio consists of materials for vascular-, endovascular-, interventional-, general surgery-, cardiothoracic-, oral- and orthopedic procedures. There are products that maintain blood flow or minimally invasive endoprostheses that re-line diseased or damaged vessels or replace to bypass them.
Chest wall and heart defects, as well as hernias and other soft tissue deficiencies could be repaired by a variety of sheet and patch materials. Gore-Tex sutures provide the handling and performance characteristics sought by a variety of surgical specialties.
In operating theatres, Surgical Barrier Fabric provides liquid-proof protection for both the patient and the surgical team. Medical device manufacturers appreciate Gore medical membranes as the material meets the critical needs for deaeration, pressure equalization, contamination barrier and particle capture.
Medical OEM offerings also include medical wires and cables, ultrasound probes and cable assemblies that all provide reliability, flexibility, durability and superior image quality.
