Clinical Research: Eastern Europe will soon catch up with Germany
Asklepios proresearch, a clinical research organization located in Hamburg, Germany recently presented its annual report about clinical research activities in Europe. Their result: The number of participations of clinical studies in Germany, one of the leading countries in research projects, slightly increased in 2006, with a positive trend for 2007. But countries like Poland and Russia are rapidly catching up among the European competition.
Asklepios proresearch, the biggest clinical research organization in Hamburg, Germany, with more than 100 clients worldwide, 26 national and international universities as partners as well as more than 3,000 study participations per year, presented its traditional annual report 2006.
Due to this report, there is an increasing competitive pressure from the Eastern European countries, like Poland, Russia and Hungary. “On one hand, research physicians are said to be more eager to perform studies, and on the other hand participating in a study is the only chance for many people there to get medical care,” Dr. Cornelia Wolf, Director of Asklepios explained the new trend. The international and European quality standards can also be established in Eastern Europe, while excess bureaucracy in Germany does not provide additional quality or security improvements, according to Cornelia Wolf.
