65RAD·BOOK 2013 ITSYSEMS immediate access, with a click of the mouse, to their reports and images from their homes. More than 98 per- cent of our patients who participated in the trial were so enthusiastic about the product that they decided to continue using it in the future,” said Georgio Benea, MD, Head of Diagnostic. When patients arrived at admis- sions, they were offered the ability to receive imaging exam results using the new Web-based patient portal. Patients that accepted the offer received a series of notifications, a password and links to access their own personal web page that contained their exams. Users do not need to download any software to use the portal. Patients found the MyVue portal easy to understand and use. “The My- Vue system is completely self-guided. It requires no special knowledge of computers, since each section has clear explanatory windows to guide users,” Benea said. By clicking on intuitive icons, pa- tients can share an imaging exam with one or more physicians. Patients can also download the files to their PCs or tablets. MyVue patient portal includes the highest levels of data security and pri- vacy available. Patients receive a unique log-in ID and a secure password in or- der to access their individual health re- cords. Every URL is encrypted in order to prohibit unauthorized access. Hospital benefited from increased efficiencies Benea added that use of the patient portal also led to greater efficiencies in the hospital’s radiology department be- cause electronic communication is so much more efficient than burning and mailing CDs/DVDs, printing and mail- ing film or faxing reports. “All these methods are highly labour intensive, costly and too slow for emergency situ- ations,” he said. He adds that the image of the hospital was also enhanced by offer- ing this innovative technology. “The Carestream MyVue project has the in- disputable advantage of preparing my radiology department for the future,” he said. Patient portal available as Vue PACS option or Vue Cloud Service MyVue is currently available as an option for Vue PACS users and as a Vue Cloud Service. The Vue Cloud Ser- vice easily integrates with healthcare providers that use a variety of PACS systems. It offers the flexibility of a monthly fee and can accommodate rapid expansion without the need for healthcare facilities to fund and man- age network expansions to accommo- date additional patient users. As the world’s second largest sup- plier of vendor-neutral archiving (In- Medica Report, April 2012) Care- stream manages more than 2 petabytes of data and 80 million studies world- wide across 10 different clouds. www.carestream.com/myvue MyVue enables patients to play a role in managing their care.
