ESCAIDE 2009

The European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology (ESCAIDE) aims to strengthen and expand the network of specialists, share scientific knowledge and experience internationally, and provide a dedicated platform for EPIET/FETP (field epidemiology training programme) fellows to present their work.
Along with epidemiologists, microbiologists, clinicians and public, veterinary and environmental health experts in applied infectious disease epidemiology, the event will bring together at least two members of the National Institute of Public Health from each EU Member State and the non-EU members of the European Economic Areas (EEA) Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, members of the Dedicated Surveillance Networks (DSNs) and EPIET-FETP fellows and alumni.
The special plenary session A close eye on the 2009 flu pandemic will be highlighted in the ECDC’s 3rd European Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology Conference.
However, ECDC Director Zsuzsanna Jakab, recommends attendance not only by those interested in (H1N1)v virus epidemiology, but to anyone interested in combating the spread of infectious diseases, e.g. TB, zoonoses, food, water or vector-borne diseases, HIV and sexually transmitted infections. ‘This is an unrivalled opportunity for cross-fertilisation of the latest in field epidemiology across a wide range of infectious diseases. I believe ESCAIDE is also unique for its action-oriented focus. It does not stop at theory, but looks at what we need to do next. This is where frontline professionals from national disease control institutes engage with each other and the wider scientific community.’
