The Hospital Universitário Cajuru (HUC) of the Marista Group, in Curitiba, Brazil, is renowned for its trauma service as well as orthopaedic and neurological surgery. As a trauma center, it is considered the major provider of trauma emergency care in the state of Parana. The recent implementation of IMPAX and CR solutions from Agfa HealthCare has enabled the HUC to treat more patients, more efficiently, with a significantly improved ecological footprint.

Radiologists at Belgium’s Sint-Rembert general hospital were the first to test and approve the image display, workflow management and personalized settings of Agfa HealthCare’s new IMPAX Agility solution. Carestream has implemented companion views in its digital radiography systems. Two companion views are available in Carestream products for chest radiography: one for the optimal visualization of tubes and lines in chest radiographs and the other for enhancing the conspicuity of a pneumothorax.

Considerations for routine clinical use. Since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the first commercial systems in 2000, digital mammography has become an accepted standard of care in breast cancer screening and diagnosis and has paved the way for the newest groundbreaking technology in this arena - breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography).
 

Thyroid nodules are very common. While ultrasound has a high sensitivity for the detection of thyroid lesions, its specificity - the ability to differentiate between benign and malignant nodules - is limited. Color Doppler can provide information on hypervascularity, one of the most prominent features of malignancy, albeit not reliably. That means, neither general ultrasound nor color Doppler offers high sensitivity and specificity.

Gradual introduction of CR/RIS/PACS solutions assisted by Agfa HealthCare specialists leads to improved patient flows, access from anywhere to examination results and images, integration with patient EMR through a unified HIS and improved diagnostic quality.
